Whopper of an Order for Vestas and Its Colorado-Based Manufacturing Plants

The company received a 102 MW order for 34 V90-3.0 MW units for a wind-energy project in Tehachapi, Calif. Its factory in Windsor will manufacture all the blades for the project while the towers will be produced at the Pueblo plant.

Vestas Receives 43 MW Wind Energy Order

The project, which calls for 24 V90-1.8 MW turbines for a Minnesota-based wind farm, “will result in construction jobs and long-term local maintenance positions to be hired,” according to Vestas America President, Martha Wyrsch.
That’s good news for factories in Windsor, Brighton and Pueblo.

Vestas Windsor Plant Gets First U.S. Order since 2008

The facility has been essentially idle since December when it halted production to enable retraining of employees on new manufacturing technology. That production stoppage is expected to run through this month. Vestas will build 33 wind turbines for the Granite Reliable Power Windpark in New Hampshire.

Vestas Furloughing 500 Workers at Windsor Plant

The company’s Chief Executive Ditlev Engel indicated back in October there would be a slowing in his company’s U.S. job growth because of the weak market here. Late yesterday Vestas said the furloughed workers would still be paid and retrained on other tasks, but turbine blade production is being put on hold.
