The Colorado Oil & Gas Conservation Commission released the draft rules on its website, following weeks of stakeholder meetings involving representatives from energy companies and environmental groups. Public comment from groups are due by November 23rd.

But late last week, the Colorado Oil and Gas Conservation Commission released a statement at a meeting in Durango, saying two of the three Weld County water wells Director Fox examined contained “biogenic” gas unrelated to oil and gas activity. What’s more, unintended consequences of the ‘Gasland effects’ include taxpayer money going to an increase in water-well monitoring instead of plugging old wells, according to Christi Zeller of the La Plata Energy Council.
