El Paso County County Adopts Slimmed-Down Oil and Gas Regulations

The Board of County Commissioners voted 3-2 to approve a proposal that was significantly scaled down from what the county’s planning commission approved earlier this month. The regulations govern transportation, emergency response, noxious weeds and, controversially, water quality issues related to drilling.

“This will likely become a model for other states,” said Governor Hickenlooper. “This shows what can be accomplished when industry, environmentalists and regulators come together,” said Tisha Schuller of the Colorado Oil and Gas Association. “Colorado has the most comprehensive fracking fluid disclosure rule in the county.”

House Panel OKs Industry-Friendly Changes to Colorado
Oil and Gas Conservation Commission

HB-1223 would add two members from the gas and oil industry to the nine-person commission. The COGCC used
to have seven members, with five from the energy industry, before former Governor Ritter led a change in 2007 to give more representation to environmental stakeholders.
