The Commerce City council has taken a 30-day “timeout” from its review of whether it should ban hydraulic fracturing for six months.
Instead of considering an emergency ordinance, which would have kicked in immediately, the council passed a regular ordinance on first reading Monday evening. The final reading will come in 30 days. The council said it wanted to hear from the Colorado Oil and Gas Conservation Commission as well as from industry representatives before it makes a decision on what to do longterm.
The Colorado Oil and Gas Conservation Commission is reviewing a permit request from Hillcorp Energy Company to perform hydraulic fracturing in the area near the Settler’s Crossing neighborhood, where it already runs a producing well.
