ditlev-engelDenmark-based Vestas has a major manufacturing presence here in Colorado, with multiple plants operating from Windsor to Pueblo.

Along with Bloomberg’s New Energy Finance, the Denmark-based turbine producer recently funded a Renewable Energy Index which tracks how much power used by a company is generated by renewable resources.

Chip maker giant Intel tops the list at 1,493 gigabyte hours, accounting for one third of its power. Even more impressive is Kohl’s Department Stores which meets 100% of its energy needs with renewables.

Ditlev Engel, chief executive officer of Vestas Wind Systems A/S recently spoke about the Index, corporate investment in renewable energy and the outlook for the wind turbine market.  “

“We should have an index to really benchmark in a very systematic way how people are doing on renewable energy,” said Engel.

“90 percent of all consumers in the world would like to have more renewable energy, and 80 percent of those consumers actually believe that companies that have the right behavior in renewable energy are companies, or product lines, that they would like to support.”

I would hope that coporations that say actually it makes sense to be part of this because we are actually doing what our customers want us to do,” he said.

Engel was interviewed by Andrea Catherwood on Bloomberg Television’s “Last Word.”
