A 112-year old Denver oil and gas company is changing it’s name, and it is not just a minor tweak. St. Mary Land & Exploration will be known as SM Energy Co, and its current St. Mary Land logo will be revised when the oil and gas company makes it official in June.

The energy company (NYSE: SM) said that shareholders approved the official name change at last week’s annual meeting.

“We have come a long way since our founding in 1908 with our namesake properties in St. Mary Parish, Louisiana,” President and CEO Tony Best said in a statement. “The change in our name reinforces the strategic transformation we have made in recent years into a significant resource play company in North America. Our new name honors our rich legacy, while also promoting awareness of our new direction and expanding high quality portfolio.”

The renaming will take effect June 1 through the filing of an amendment to the company’s certificate of incorporation, and its website will change that day from stmaryland.com to sm-energy.com.

The company will continue to be listed on the New York Stock Exchange under the symbol “SM.”
