FORT COLLINS - CSU’s reputation as one of the leading “green” universities in the nation received a boost with the recent announcement that it will offer its first global environmental sustainability course this fall, under the auspices of the School of Global Environmental Sustainability. Global Environmental Sustainability Seminar, GES-192, is a 3-credit course that offers an introduction to sustaining ecosystems and people in a changing world.

THE FIRST OF MANY GES SOURCES

“This class is the first of many SoGES courses to come, and is a great way for SoGES to begin speaking with students directly,” said Kathleen Galvin, associate director of Educational Programs at SoGES. “It is so important to begin educating students on these issues and inspiring dialog to facilitate change.”

The course will be taught by Dave Swift, a senior research scientist with CSU’s Natural Resource Ecology Laboratory, and be offered on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 2-3:15 p.m. in Johnson Hall Room 222. The curriculum will focus on many aspects of critical interconnections of global environmental sustainability, the environment, economics and society. There is no prerequisite for registration. UMBRELLA ORGANIZATION FOR ENVIRONMENTAL EDUCATION AND RESEARCH

A first for the state, the School of Global Environmental Sustainability is an umbrella organization that encompasses all environmental education and research at the university. The school positions CSU to address the multiple challenges to global sustainability through broad-based research, curricular and outreach initiatives.
