Castle Rock Welcomes Turbine Parts Manufacturer
Updated by Staff
Aluwind Inc., a Danish manufacturer of aluminum parts used in wind turbines and towers, is opening its first American manufacturing plant in Castle Rock, the town’s Economic Development Council announced.
The company, based in Ringe, Denmark, supplies three of the top four wind turbine manufacturers in the world, according to Frank Gray, president and CEO of the Castle Rock Economic Development Council.
“They wanted a location between what [Vestas] has going in Pueblo and what they’re doing in Brighton,” Gray said.
The new Aluwind facility adds to the Front Range’s growing reputation as a mecca for renewable energy businesses and follows other major manufacturers’ expansion here, including Vestas Wind Systems, another Danish wind turbine manufacturer, which has invested millions in new plants. The company’s Pueblo facility is home to the world’s largest tower manufacturing operation, and a wind blade factory and nacelles housing assembly plant in Brighton are also expected to be completed this year.
Aluwind says it expects to start operations with 30 employees and add between 50 and 75 more in by the end of the year. The first finished products will roll off the line sometime in July, according to Gray. Contact personale@alu-wind.com if you are interested in interviewing for employment with the company.
The 50,000 square foot facility in Castle Rock is southwest of Interstate 25 and East Wolfensberger Road. Gray said it may expand to 80,000 square feet dedicated to manufacturing if things go well.
“We are excited about the prospects of establishing operations in Castle Rock, and we wish to thank the town of Castle Rock and the Castle Rock Economic Development Council for helping to make it happen,” said Jesper Flindt,
Aluwind’s VP of U.S. operations commented in a statement
released to the press.

Too bad Aulwind didn’t perform terrific due diligence regarding water availability in Castle Rock and Douglas County. Currently, water is from the Denver Basin aquifers and is being drawn upon at an alarming and unsustainable rate.
Ironic that a wind energy company, which prides itself on energy sustainability, has missed the fact that there are poor prospects for water sustainability in Castle Rock.
