Boulder-Based Porous Power Technologies, LLC, named last year as “Best Early Venture” in a U.S. Department of Energy competition, won a new honor this week. AlwaysOn named Porous Power as category winner in Energy Storage on the 2009 GoingGreen 100 Top Private Companies list.
According to AlwaysOn, this list “recognizes the top private greentech companies that are creating new business opportunities and transforming the world’s largest industries to improve sustainability.”
Porous Power is changing the lithium-ion battery industry by paving the way for mass production of more affordable batteries for electric vehicles and a number of other challenging energy storage applications. The company makes the Symetrix™ line of highly efficient, microporous laminable battery separators, and says flat-laminated lithium-ion batteries are the design of choice for future hybrid and electric vehicle applications because they are faster and more efficient to produce than standard prismatic, pouch or wound cells. They offer improved safety, reduced weight, increased thermal control and extended cycle life.
“The cost of batteries has been a barrier to widespread adoption of electric cars,” explains Tim Feaver, Porous Power’s CEO. “Our unique separators cut substantial cost from the battery manufacturing process. We are excited to receive this GoingGreen 100 honor as recognition for these important technology advances.”
