Xcel Reports Major Increase in Renewables Use
According to its 2008 Corporate Responsibility Report, The state’s dominant power provider has reduced emissions and increased the amount of power it gets from renewable energy sources.
Xcel Energy’s summation also said it invested in projects to improve service reliability and customer satisfaction, and remains committed to the community.
Since 2003, Xcel has reduced carbon dioxide emissions by 26 million tons cumulative and has committed to a 15 percent reduction from 2005 levels by 2020 by increasing the use of renewable energy, retiring two coal-fired plants, converting two other plants to natural gas, conservation and advancing smart-grid technology.
