For Coloradoans interested in the possibility of wind power being generated on their property, a good primer resource is now available.

Colorado State University, through its Cooperative Extension, has put together a booklet designed to equip ranchers and farmers with enough basic knowledge about wind-generated energy so they can determine if they have the right conditions to invest in and develop wind generation on their property.

The resource should be considered an introduction and primer, not a technical guidebook or installation manual. Several pages of web links and expert contacts are included for those who want to take the next step. Contents include:

The History and Value of Wind
Why Wind?
The Business of Wind for Home … or Sale
The Conditions for Wind: Are You Well Suited?
The Nuts and Bolts of Building a Wind Farm
Business and Financing
A Brief Look at Hardware
Environmental Considerations
Conclusion
Websites with Wind Power Information

The publication is written by Leigh Fortson, Western Region Marketing Specialist, CSU Cooperative Extension, with Dr. Dennis Lamm, College of Agricultural Sciences, CSU, serving as the project supervisor. Craig Cox, Director of Interwest Energy
Alliance and Sarah Johnson of Windustry provided consultation.
