Colorado Convention Center Gets Rooftop Solar System

DENVER - Private investors and the City of Denver are launching a new solar-power installation on the roof of the Colorado Convention Center tomorrow. The 300-kilowatt, 30,000 square-foot system is designed to reduce carbon emissions by 435 tons per year, according to its developers.
The public-private partnership was launched last year and Oak Leaf Partners, the project developers, said at the time it would enable the city and convention center “to secure clean power generation through a long-term contract known as a power purchase agreement rather than a major capital investment.”
Owner of the project and the primary financer is MMA Renewable Ventures. Namasté Solar handled the design and installation of the 1,310 solar panels built by California-based SunPower.
On hand for Wednesday’s dedication will be Denver Mayor John Hickenlooper, Jack Finlaw of Denver’s Division of Theatres and Arenas, John Hereford of Oak Leaf Energy Partners and Blake Jones, CEO of Namasté Solar.
