Ritter to the Rescue - Urges Pipeline Approval
By Art Mass
Over the last few years Governor Ritter’s relationship with the Colorado oil and gas industry could accurately be described as lukewarm, at best. The new COGCC rules, which the Governor has strongly supported certainly is one of the contentious issues between the two parties.
However, the Gov stepped up to the plate for gas developers last week when he sent a letter to federal officials urging fast certification of the proposed Ruby Pipeline, which would cut through northeastern Utah.
A lack of pipeline capacity is one of the reasons for the slowdown in the state’s natural gas industry. Other factors, of course, are plunging gas prices and tight credit.
In his letter Gov. Ritter cited too few pipelines as a primary
reason for gas produced in Colorado selling for less than in
other areas.
“That hurts Colorado gas producers and puts Colorado jobs at
risk,” Ritter wrote to the FERC.
Ritter asked the commission to expedite approval of the
pipeline “to help protect thousands of Colorado jobs, to
support an important Colorado industry and to help move America
closer to energy security.”
